6/26/2008I know this has been an issue so here is a post I found on the subject. Enjoy!
6/12/2008Well, this is may last day at tech-ed 2008. Its been a wild few days. We have gotten a lot of great traffic to our booth. We have even sold a few Sonar licenses which is fantastic news. Working the booth has been a lot harder than I expected, being on my feet all day and talking Sonar, but it has been a great experience. I'll have to put together a better post when I get home. Till then, Cheers! 6/11/2008
Well things went pretty well on our first day. We had a lot of traffic to our booth and got sdome good leads. Here are some pics from the day:

And Bob Fox takes a dip in the fountain!
Thats all for now. I will post more details when I can.
Cheers. 5/21/2008The DFW Community meeting last night was pretty good. We finally got to break out into a developers only session where we spent an hour going over how to deploy SharePoint features (using WSPs natch). It was a really great discussion led by my partner The SharePoint Cowboy himself.
The next meeting is on June 17th. It should be really good. Andrew Connell (SharePoint MVP and all around awesome guy) will be presenting, and of course we will be having our now regular developers breakout where we will tackle any issue you may have. So come hungry and bring your coding questions!
I saw this comic ( here) that I think is a perfect example of project expectations and what our standard for a 'successful' project is.
Cheers! I just wanted to welcome our newest developer, Phong Nguyen, to the BinaryWave team. I am really excited to have another developer around. Now maybe I can take it a little easier (yeah right!). 5/20/2008
So, as you may know I have been actively working on the development of our first product Sonar. Not only is this BinaryWaves first commercial product but mine as well. There is a lot involved in launching a product. In addition to my normal director/ lead developer duties I have been wearing the support and clerical hats for the last few weeks. Like any product launch we have had a couple of bumps in the road (mostly due to installer issues). So I have been spending a lot of time on smoothing out these issues and streamlining the entire process. As part of this process I have decided to remove the dependency on the HTTP module. While the module gave us a lot of flexability it did make the install process a little messy for some users. I attribute this to erratic behavior of SPWebConfig and the fact that almost nobody is running with a vanilla web.config.
Now all of this brings me to the Sonar v1.2 discussion. We will be releasing Sonar v1.2 very soon. It will include bug fixes as well as a streamlined installation process. We have also added a few enhancements to make the tool an even better value. Details to follow soon.
Be sure to look for us at TechEd in June. I will be staffing the BinaryWave booth (#1349) during the IT Pro week (June 10-13th). We will be showing off Sonar Pro (metrics for your entire portal incl realtime reporting) as well as discussing all things SharePoint. We may even have some cool SWAG for you guys (make sure to mention my blog)!
Cheers!
EDIT:
I just noticed its been exactly 2 mos since my last post. Thats it really. Just thought it was kinda funny. Guess I can only post on the 20th of the month.

You may have noticed our nice new graphics on the blog pages (thanks Kyle!). I, however, don't have a cool nickname like "The SharePoint Cowboy".
Oh well. I guess I'll just have to suffer on nick-nameless.
Well, its been tough playing catch-up the last week or so from the conference. Lots of Sonar related work, as well as some other things. Sort of feeding off of Erics rant about 64-bit goodness I have a rant.
Why can't crap just work. I mean, it's not that hard. Other companies seem to manage. Take my mouse for instance. Its a particular brand of mouse (I won't say which) that worked great for 1 year. And then BAM! Now it's skittery and jumpy all the time. It's gotten to the point that its just not worth the trouble. Now I would just call it a random misshap, the unlucky purchase of a flakey mouse, but I have another mouse by this same vendor at home. It has worked perfectly for 2 years without misshap then BAM! Now its skittery, jumpy etc. These instances happened at about the same time, on different machines in different locations. The only commonality (besides myself) is that they are wireless mice by the same vendor using the same wireless technology (same receiver even). One is much newer and a laser versus the older, optical/led one. Now why would this happen? I certainly have no idea. I would venture to say that an update to the operating system of both machines was to blame, but I cannot confirm that such an event happened. I have since purchased a wireless mouse by a different vendor (same techmology AFAIK) which works perfectly. It's things like that which really piss me off. /rant 3/6/2008
Wow, it has been a crazy week here in Seattle. The weather was terrible in Dallas on Monday so that delayed us getting here on time. We finally made it into town around 1:00PM PST and were starving (since thats 3:00PM Dallas time and we hadn't eaten since 8:00AM). So after checking into the wonderful Sheraton Seattle (I give it 5 Stars! esp for its location in the center of all to do in downtown) we went looking for some food. We ended up at the Fox Sports grill which was pretty good. They had CFS on the menu (chicken fried steak for all the non-southerners) so I had to sample it. The bartender recommeded a great local beer to accompany it (hats off to her) and we settled in for a great meal.
We finally made it over to the conference around 3:00PM (just in time to check in and hit a couple of sessions before calling it a day). While I spent the evening working on Sonar (which was released on Wednesday, yeah!) Eric went out and apparently had a rip-roaring good time with the MVPs.
Tuesday was spent mostly working on cleaning up Sonar for release. I did get to meet an old friend from high school for a late lunch (hey Amy!) and some great cheesecake (gotta love the Cheesecake Factory). Sonar was finally finished on Tues night , so I decided to relax a little and join Eric and the MVP crowd at Ruths Chris for an absolutely fantastic steak. We then headed over to the Crown Plaza for some additional libations and social networking with a lot of great guys (and gals) some MVPs, some of the UK guys and a bunch of people that I didnt get to know well enough. Maybe at TechEd!
Wednesday was a full day of sessions and talking to people about Sonar. I saw a great session on AJAX and LINQ in SharePoint which I really enjoyed. I then attended the SSO session by Todd Baginski and saw some of Heather Solomons session. Then it was game night, which included free drinks and Rock Band! Later that night we meet up with, well it seemed like EVERYONE, at Kells down by the water. It was a great place with traditional Irish fare and great Guiness on draft. After so many days of non-stop fun I was feeling pretty rough so I headed back to the hotel early and hit the sack.
Thursday started out pretty bad as I found out, quite by accident unfortunatley, that our flight had been canceled due to bad weather in Dallas. Now I'm not quite sure why Dallas had snow the day we left, and the day we are supposed to go home but NEVER any other time of year (and was 70+ degrees on the days in between!). I mean it's MARCH! So, we got bumped to the 'red eye' tonight. Hopefully they wont cancel that flight as well and I will be home very EARLY tomorrow.
All-in-all the conference has been great! I have met a lot of really great people and had a great time. I also learned a few new things as well.
Cheers!
